Advertising takes many forms. You see billboards everywhere. Now there are even mobile versions. You turn on the television and not an hour goes by when a commercial ad is not aired. Hmmm! What's Up With Me?

I recently discovered EBay selling. I put my Sony Playstation 2 up for sale, and in no time five persons were already haggling with me. Since I bought a PSP, I've been trying to sell the PS2 for quite some time before last week. I didn't know it would be that easy to sell online. I of course sold it to the first person who contacted me. It was not being auctioned off, so the "first come, first serve" rule applied. I sold it to some guy who I guess would re-sell the item on EBay at a more expensive price.

So, what did I do with the money? I bought a pair of casual shoes. There is a back-to-school sale at almost all the malls, and I took advantage of it. I also visited some friends I haven't seen for a while, and that resulted in close to five days of alcohol "bingeing". Now, I have a rhinovirus, which is the so-I-would-sound-intelligent term for a cold (or maybe I have swine flu, and that's why I feel a bit "piggish" today). Sadly, however, I was not able to meet with my former officemates at CVG, or my close friends at KNL; the latter ones, I think, are mad at me. Sorry guys.

I bought a downhill bicycle, but not the uber expensive type. Whenever I go to my friends' house, I use it instead. It's not my way of making a statement regarding the environment. I just need the exercise.

Game 1 goes to the Lakers, but I'm pretty sure the Orlando gunners will re-load their cannons and fire away next game. I hope Van Gundy doesn't play Nelson. Skip to my Lou is doin' great, and it's bad for his morale that his coach is substituting him with an injured player.

I am currently watching the 3rd season of House, M. D. I hope by the time I finish the 4th, there is already a complete DVD copy of the 5th. And that reminds me that I have to catch up on my DVD viewing. School is no longer out. Peace out!

Lawyer Joke

A truck driver amused himself by running over lawyers as they walked down the side of the road. Every time he saw a lawyer walking along the road, he would swerve to hit him. There would be a loud "thud", and then he would swerve back on the road.

As the truck driver drove along one day, he saw a priest hitch hiking, he pulled over and asked the priest, "Where are you going, Father?"

The priest said he was on his way to his church up the road.

"I'll give you a lift."

The priest climbed into the passenger seat and the truck driver continued down the road. Suddenly, the truck driver saw a lawyer walking down the road and instinctively swerved to hit him. The results of the 2008 Philippine Bar Exam will be released any time today. Even now, I am already having a bit of difficulty accessing the Supreme Court website where the results will be posted. I bet a lot of people are already trying to see if the results have already been posted. Anyway, I'll post it as soon as it comes out, and probably have some .doc, .txt and .pdf file downloads at the ready.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I recently found out that there are a lot of new robots that will appear in the Transformers' sequel, Revenge of the Fallen. I came across the full list released by Paramount pictures. Here it is.

As you can see, all of the autobots featured in the first Transformers movie (with the exception of Jazz, who was killed by Megatron) will be in the sequel. On the other hand, only two Decepticons will be appearing again in the second installment. I'm quite excited that Devastator and Soundwave are in the Revenge of the Fallen, however, I was expecting that when these two are around, Grimlock and the rest of the Dinobots will also be in the movie. Anyway, there is still part three (hopefully). I can't believe they'd include Arcee but not Hotrod in the movie. The writers could have capitalized in a side-story. Anyway, I hope it's as good as I think it is. I can't wait for it come out in theaters.

You may have already gathered from the absence of the List of the 2008 Philippine Bar Exam Passers that the same has not been released yet. It turns out that my very reliable source wasn't so reliable at all. Well, a friend told me that the results will either be released next week or the first week of April. I'll post the results as soon as they come out.

I've been on a short hiatus because it's Finals week, or should I say weeks. I have exams till Saturday, but that did not stop me from attending my favorite niece's and her mother's birthday party last night. Also, kudos to my sister who just finished the midwifery course in the BU ladderized nursing program.

Krypto-Nate Dunks Over Superman Dwight Howard

So I was watching the NBA All-Star Game when suddenly the screen went blank. I checked the other channels, and they were okay. Apparently, the problem was only with channel 43. I called Tripinvision Cable TV, and this polite and accomodating girl answered. I told her about my problem and she said she'll report and it and have it fixed asap. I must have heard her incorrectly because the game didn't come back on. This is not the first time I have had problems with Tripinvision. I missed good shows and movies because of their lame service. I'm contemplating switching to ESTV.

Also, last February 5, someone stole my helmet. Just a few days ago, I spotted someone riding a motorbike and wearing what seemed like my helmet. What I did was force him to the side of the road and demand he give me back my helmet. I would have dragged him to the police station, but I was just glad to get my helmet back. He said he bought it from a friend. But I knew that that was a likely story. Be wary of someone who drives a black (or I think that was dark-violet) motorbike with license plate no. 8820 EA. The guy's a petty thief.

I watched Tropic Thunder yesterday. It was not as good as I thought, but it was entertaining. Tom Cruise was very funny.

Working With Business Metrics

The days go by so fast. Before you know it, it’s already spring. And you know what that means, right? Expenditures. Yes! A complete spring, or even summer, outfit may not be as expensive as winter wear, but what with the economic crisis and all, it may not be a bad idea to do some scrimping. Midterm Exams are finally over (well, almost!). I still have Legal Ethics on Tuesday. We just had our Criminal Law II exam. It was relatively easy. I was expecting a much more difficult exam. Or maybe I just got lucky. I was bummed, though, because after the exam I read the book and learned that I got one question wrong. Here's the case.

"A" is an unmarried woman, and in order to conceal her dishonor, she killed her three-day old son. What crime was committed?

Well, I deliberated between two felonies, to wit: parricide and infanticide. I answered "infanticide". As it turns out, the answer is the former. Infanticide is killing an infant who is LESS than three days old, while parricide is killing one's descendant (among others), in this case, a son. Less is the operative word. That's ten points I'm never gonna see.

Next month will be the release of the results of the 2008 Philippines Bar Examination. There were rumors that the Bar Exam results will be released this month, but maybe because of the sheer number of examinees, they were forced to release it next month. Anyway, the Bar Exam results are indeed released in March of every year. I hope we have a lot of Bar passers this year. I'll try to post the results of the 2008 Philippines Bar Examination as soon as it comes out. So watch out for it.

And so... back to normal. I've studied for the examinations the entire week. I haven't seen most of my friends for a week, which is quite unusual, since we are almost inseparable. By the way, Happy Valentine's Day! And if you're wondering if I have a date today, well, I do.

I spent the entire Sunday nursing a terrible hangover. I was out with friends 'til 6 am. I mostly spent the day watchin' tv, and I came across this MTV countdown of the 40 Greatest Internet Superstars which is quite interesting. It's basically a list about those who have made a name for themselves thru the Net. You'll find familiar names in the list like Perez Hilton, Little Loca, Chad Vader and Karyn Bosnak, but I personally found the Chuck Norris Facts List the most entertaining of the lot. Here are a few "facts":

There is no 'ctrl' button on Chuck Norris's computer. Chuck Norris is always in control.

Chuck Norris can sneeze with his eyes open.

Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird.

When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.

There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.

What I'm saying is, if you're an Internet buff, you should check the list out. I'd probably review them one by one if I'm not too busy. Keep your fingers crossed.

Shopping, Anyone?

I used to do my running wearing the same pair of shoes I use for playing basketball, which are very heavy. I have the same pair of Reeboks that Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson used during one All-Star Game. I would always complain of lower back pains after my morning run, and a doctor-friend told me that basketball shoes are not meant for long-distance running because of the strain it puts on the lower back. He suggested I get a pair of running shoes. I went to the mall yesterday hoping that since it’s the first quarter of the year some of the shoe outlets have updated their inventory and brought in new supplies. Unfortunately, I was told that a couple of them decided to close or relocate.

I met a friend of mine later that day who told me that it has something to do with the recession. He advised me to try online shopping instead. That got me thinking. I spend almost most of my free time on the web, I might as well do shopping while am it. So when I got home, I went online . I immediately found out that it was indeed more convenient. What made it so was the fact that in one website alone, they have almost 30,000 stores selling their wares. Okay! Not all online shopping sites do that, but luckily I found one that does. So there I was in the middle of the day picking from among hundreds of running shoes. Sites like ShopWiki finds all the stores in the internet that offer all kinds of running shoes.

So, after deliberating on what brand to pick, I finally decided on the new Adidas A3 Accelerator Tennis Shoe. I never knew it was this easy to shop online. I always thought it would be too much of a hassle, but there I was, not having to go to the mall anymore and finding the right training shoe for me. And it’s just not running shoes, you can find virtually all kinds of things in online stores. I'm talking about an Apple MacBook Air, a Guitar Hero DVD for the PS3 console, an iPod Touch and lots more. And the icing on the cake is, they’re relatively inexpensive. I just couldn’t ask for more.

SuperBowl XLIII

Steelers win SuperBowl XLIII! I knew they were the better team, but I always thought that given the fact that the Cardinals haven't been to a SuperBowl in the history of the franchise, they'd play better defense. As for the offense, Warner led the Cardinals magnificently. I'd expect nothing less from him. Harrison's 2nd quarter interception was the key to the Steelers' win. If it weren't for that interception, the Cardinals would have led before the 2nd half, and they'd have the momentum. Fitzgerald's 2nd half offensive burst was great, but it was the defensive team who let the Cardinals down. But I would have to take my hat off to Holmes. He knew what was at stake, and stepped up his game to another level. Steelers win, 27-23. And, Arnel Pineda (vocalist of the band, Journey) played during the pre-game show. Nice! Bruce Springsteen's half-time show? Pfft!

Guess Who's Back!

It's been, like, centuries since I last made a post here. Well, It's not like I don't have an excuse. Anyway, I've thought about giving my blogsite to a friend, but I decided against it at the last moment. There are a lot of things I wanna write about, but I just couldn't find the time.

What prompted me to start writing again was UFC 94, the St. Pierre - Penn fight. Penn was completely dominated by the French-Canadian. And it so happened that I saw Penn swearing that he'd die first before quitting, but just a few minutes ago, he let the doctor stop the fight. When I saw them fight, I was reminded by the Lesnar - Couture fight a few months back. It was good, but supremely disappointing. Anyway, enough about MMA.

Tomorrow. SuperBowl XLIII. I'm excited. It would've been great if the Giants made it again to the SuperBowl this year, but I've gotta admit the Cardinals are good contenders. I'd bet good money that the Cardinals will win by more than a touchdown. Fitzgerald is sick (in a good way!)

Okay! Next on my list. Actually, a friend of mine asked me to update my blog so she would know what I've been doing these past few weeks. So, here I am, updating. Well, I've been going to school. It's the second semester, and I finally am able to adjust. The professors are great, and so are my classmates. My problem, however, is that a lot of them are dropping out. I know that that shouldn't be my problem, but I am a bit affected. It makes me think of transferring. Maybe I'l let another year pass before entertaining those thoughts. I've got a lot of "stress-busters". I usually hang out with my friends after class, and stay out late (except of course if we have recitations and exams).

A friend of mine recently got married. Congratulations! Two of my classmates also got married a few weeks ago. Congratulations! And I'm sorry I was not able to attend the wedding. One of my ex-girlfriends (I recently learned) also got married to a Chinese, and is 8 months pregnant with a baby boy. Congratulations! One of my classmates is pregnant. Congratulations! Whew! It seems everyone who's my age is either getting married, or having kids. Makes me feel really old! And my friend, Robert, just had his second daughter baptized. Welcome to the Christian world, Francesca!

A friend of mine just made a so-so knock-knock joke. lol.

All I do in my spare time is watch TV. I haven't played basketball in a very long time. I recently discovered that October Road and What About Brian are not that bad. They've been cut short, though. But, they're good. I'm still waiting for Season 8 of Smallville to end before I buy the DVD. And, by the way, there are a lot of movies that will come out this 2009 that are really good. Xmen Origins: Wolverine. Harry Potter and the Half-BloodPrince. Watchmen. Dragonball Z: Evolution (if I'm not mistaken). Terminator: Salvation. Jurassic Park 4. And a lot more.

I've been spending a lot of time on the Net lately, and I've read about and seen a lot of new movies that will certainly be awesome to watch in the moviehouse. I may not be an expert critic, but I bet a lot of people will agree with me when I say that watching these following movies is a must.

1. Hellboy: The Golden Army
The first one was surprisingly good, and based on the trailer that I saw, the second one is even better. The lighting was greatly improved and the cinematography is awesome.

2. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Those born in the '80s would have to agree that Wolverine is the best mutant ever. Agility - 7. Fighting Ability - 7. Sounds geeky knowing those stats, eh? I don't care. My friends and I are gonna troop to the mall to see this one.

3. Street Fighter: Chun-Li
Kristin Kreuk stars in this movie. I recently found out (because of my Smallville addiction) that she's half-Dutch and half-Chinese. You may have guessed from the name alone. She was lame in Seasons 1-3 of Smallville, but she proved that she can kick ass in Seasons 4-7.

4. Justice League: Mortal
Millions of fans went to the moviehouses to watch Superman Returns and Batman Begins. What if you put these two superheroes together along with The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Martian Manhunter? It is a dream come true for every child of the '60s, '70s and '80s.

5. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
I watched The Mummy and The Mummy Returns about four times each. I can't think of anything that can prevent me from doing the same with the third installment of the movie. I've seen the trailer, and it seems it will live up to the hype.

Clark and Chloe Video

I have a new addiction, and it's called Smallville! I wasn't too thrilled about the show before, but i recently bought (out of boredom) DVDs of Seasons 1-6. As soon as I started watching the pilot episode, I knew I was hooked. I have to admit, the storyline kinda gets redundant as the season progresses, but it's all good. It gets a bit cheesy at times, but I'm all for it. Besides, it's better than watchin' lame-ass shows on TV.

Even before I began watchin' Smallville, I've already seen the Collide (Howie Day) mix video posted on YouTube which focuses on Clark and Lana's relationship. I don't know what the big deal about Lana is, I think Chloe is way prettier. I found a huge stack of videos on Live Video, and most of them center on Clark and Lana. However, I did a little digging and found a good Clark and Chloe video. I wanna share it with you.

Must-See Movies

I love watching movies on the big screen. Just recently, I saw two trailers, and they blew me away. During the first quarter of the year, I thought the movies this year won't be as good as the ones released in 2007. I couldn't have been more wrong. It turns out, movies are gettin' better and better.

One of the trailers is of the Wanted movie. It stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and a guy that I don't know, who happens to be the main protagonist named Wes. I pretty much got the gist from the trailer. The guy's dad dies. His dad turned out to be an assasin, and was part of the Fraternity. Fox (played by Angelina Jolie) recruits Wes and trains him. He found out that being an assasin is in his genes. There's a twist at the end that I don't want to reveal, lest I spoil the movie for you. The Wanted movie got an R-rating for violence, among others. That's more reason to watch it.

I saw this trailer on TV, and it was of the Hancock movie. It stars Will Smith, one of my favorite actors. And judging by the blockbuster success of his movies, I bet a lot of other people like him as well. And Charlize Theron is in the movie. A definite must-watch. Here's the plot. Hancock (Will Smith) is a well-intentioned superhero who leaves damage in the wake of his heroics (mainly because he's always drunk). The citizens of Los Angeles are grateful that they have their very own superhero, but then again, in their opinion Hancock does them more harm than good. Until one day, Hancock rescues a corporate PR in the person of Jason Bateman. The latter tries to give Hancock a makeover so people would like him. The hero fell for Bateman's wife (Charlize Theron). Not that complicated, eh?! We'll have to see what happens in the end.

Streetball: Second Strike

Our second game in the streetball tournament was held last night. We played against the Yellow team. We started out on a 14-2 run, but that lead was short-lived because the Yellow team had a new player on their roster who can score at will. He was a couple of inches taller than me, and really athletic. However, we were still able to hold them at bay. We led by as much as 11 in the 3rd, but we didn't let ourselves get too comfortable with the lead. I was on and off the floor because I got into early foul trouble. With 5 minutes left in the 4th, I fouled out. We were leading by 6 points at that time. That lead was eradicated in an instant. With 3 minutes left in the game, the score was tied. My teammates took over. Terminator made a couple of clutch free throws. Chayee aka Fire & Ice got to the line and delivered as well. D'Unpredictable put the nail in the coffin with an And1 shot. It was a total team effort. I'm looking forward to playing against the DMS team, which in my opinion is the best team in the league. Tomorrow, we'll have to see if that holds true.

P.S. Leonel caught the game on video, but I wasn't able to get hold of a copy. When I do, I'll post it asap.

From a pool of 33, 12 NBA players were chosen to represent the US in the upcoming 2008 Beijing Olympics. Their first game will be against China, and that will be on Aug. 10. I just hope that the USA Basketball squad will be able to redeem themselves this year.

"The Ultimate Fighter" finale and results

In the main event, Kendall Grove defeated Evan Tanner via a split-decision. It was a bit surprising that it wasn't a unanimous decision. Grove, who was favored to win the match, dominated Tanner. He landed more hits and had control from the beginning until the end of the fight.

Moreover, Amir Sadollah was crowned The Ulimate Fighter 7 king after putting a stop to C. B. Dollaway at 3:02 of the first round of their match during the finale of the said mixed martial arts reality TV show. Sadollah took a lot of punches from Dollaway, who seemingly had control of the fight. However, the former managed to slap on an armbar. Dollaway tapped once, and that was it for the UFC-hopeful.

Streetball: First Strike

NBA season is over, so you won't probably see any NBA sports updates until November of this year (which is when the new season will begin), but I might write something about the draft some time soon. I'm kinda excited because NFL season is about to open in a few months, so you'll see me writing a lot about football.

In the meantime, I'm busying myself with our own "quasi" streetball tournament that we hold on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. It all started out like this: Me and a couple of friends regularly play basketball. There were about 14 of us. After a few weeks of playin', more and more friends joined us, until it took about three games before everyone could play. And so we decided to hold a mini-tournament. There are 5 teams, each team is comprised of 8-9 players. Our first game was held yesterday, and we won. We led by as much as 22 in the 4th. They tried to mount a comeback, but we didn't want all our efforts to go to waste so we matched them point for point until the end of the game. How I wish photos were taken. Anyway, there's always a next time.

Next game is on Sunday, and we're up against probably the best team in the league.

Boston Celtics: 2008 NBA Finals Champions

In what can only be called a lopsided victory, the Boston Celtics finally received the much-coveted Larry O’Brien trophy, the 17th in franchise history. They dominated the Los Angeles Lakers in every facet of the game, and sent the latter packing unable to keep their chins up. And how could they? This is, as far as I can remember, the lousiest performance in an NBA Finals game ever. You can quote me on that! Laker fans would find it hard not to agree after what they’ve seen. Or maybe, just maybe, the Big Three just wanted it more. They have paid their dues. It has been a long time coming. They’re indeed worthy to become NBA champions.

The Boston Celtics won Game 6 with a score of 131-92, a 39-point rout. They shot better from the field (49%), from the line (86%) and from three-point country (50%). The Celtic big men outclassed their Laker counterparts inside the paint. They grabbed 14 offensive rebounds and 34 defensive rebounds. Pierce, Rondo and House dished out more assists than all the Lakers combined. Kobe and the Los Angeles Lakers seemed unable to hold on to the ball, giving the Celtics an 18-4 steals advantage. They made Kobe pay for his winning steal in Game 5. And the most amazing part is, they only committed 7 TOs. If those stats don’t make any team a legitimate champion, I don’t know what will.

Paul Pierce was given the NBA Finals MVP Award. He deserved it. But if it were up to me, I would have given the Award to both Pierce and Garnett. But it’s all good. If it weren’t for The Truth, they would not have been in the Finals in the first place.

Mixed Martial Arts: Be Armed to the Teeth

Lakers - Celtics Game 3 Results

Finally, the Los Angeles Lakers win one. They come to within one (2-1), and avoided being on the brink of elimination come Thursday. They took the lead early in the first, but the Boston Celtics managed to tie the game before the start of the second quarter. Kobe looked like a man on a mission. He was determined to get to the line on every drive. During the 2nd quarter, he was again called for a technical foul for contesting a no-call. His efforts were not in vain because after that the referees kept a closer look at his defenders.

The Boston Celtics dogged the Los Angeles Lakers during the entire game. They took the lead about three times (if I'm not mistaken), and I thought that was it for the Lakers. It's a good thing that they were up to the challenge, otherwise they would have received a mouthful from Jackson, and maybe even from the fans at the Staples Center. Odom got in foul trouble early in the first half, and so did some of the Celtics starters. Both Odom and Gasol played horribly, offense-wise, but they did man their stations and stood up to the Celtics big men. Pierce had a bad game (seemed like he needed another Willis Reed moment to lift his spirits up), and Garnett wasn't able to find his shot until the 3rd. Vujacic came up big in Game 3 of the NBA finals. And so did Ray Allen, who played superbly. Fortunately, the basketball gods favored the Los Angeles Lakers.

We'll have to see who wants the championship more in Game 4 of the 2008 NBA Finals. Will it be the championship-hungry Big Three of Boston, or will it be the MVP-led Lakers?

Celtics take Game 2

The Lakers did not play as well as I hoped they would; in fact they did not play half as well as I hoped they would. They trailed from the start, and when they got to within 9 points in the 3rd, they let it go up to 15 in less than a minute. The Celtics led by as much as 24 with 7 minutes left in the 4th. The Lakers again had another chance to take the lead, but the poor coaching and the poor decision-making of the players led to a foiled late-quarter comeback (which would've been one of the greatest comebacks ever in NBA Finals history). The Celtics were more aggressive. The Lakers just didn't have an answer for Leon Powe, who'll be a major player in this series. There's just no one who can match up to him, bulk-wise. Rondo was a wonder. Garnett was unstoppable. And Allen played well. As for Pierce, well, we know he's pretty consistent. Next stop: The Staples Center. I hope the Lakers won't disappoint.

Michael Strahan Retires

The Giants' Defensive End finally decided to retire. It's a good decision, if you ask me. And besides, it's better he quit while he's ahead. The NFL is not like the NBA; back-to-back championships are a rarity in football. The Giants' organization needs to look for a DE that's as good, or better (if that's possible), than Strahan if they want to be able to defend their championship. It's not too late to make this decade a decade of the New York Giants, and not the New England Patriots. I bet the latter will be back with a vengeance.

A friend of mine sent me an mp3 of Fall Out Boy's cover of Michael Jackson's hit song "Beat It". I always liked Fall Out Boy, mainly because of their single "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs", but while I was downloading the file my friend sent me, I was kinda skeptical. I thought Patrick Stump's vocals would not do justice to the '80s hit. Moreover, I couldn't imagine what "Beat It" would sound like as a rock song. So i waited. It took only about 15 seconds, and I immediately listened to it afterwards. Needless to say, it blew me away. Patrick Stump did do justice to the song. And guess who did a solo? Eddie Van Halen! I just don't know why they stuck with John Mayer when they recorded the studio version. Anyway, here's a streaming video of Fall Out Boy's rock version of "Beat It". I watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with a couple of friends last night. It wasn't as good as The Last Crusade, but it was definitely better than the Temple of Doom. The ending was a bit disappointing, though. Steven Spielberg is becoming too predictable. The chemistry between Ford and LaBeouf is good. The action sequences were great, although I hated the part when LaBeouf swung from tree to tree. It was a so-so movie, but it was better than some of the movies I've seen so far this year.

Just this morning, I stumbled upon an article detailing all the historical blunders in the movie, and here they are.

Upon arriving in Peru, Indiana Jones Jr. revealed to his son that he learned to speak Quechua, the language of indigenous people across the Andes, from Pancho Villa and his men.

San Antonio Spurs Beat the New Orleans Hornets

The Spurs shot better from downtown and from the line. Manu Ginobili even shot better from three-point territory than all the Hornets combined. They also grabbed more rebounds (offensive and defensive), and they dished out more assists than the overrated Hornets. It is no surprise that they won. They managed to limit David West to 20 points, which is what they needed to win at New Orleans Arena. And Peja Stojakovic, who is one of the most experienced players in the team, played horribly. The Spurs' big three played exceptionally well, while the supporting players made some clutch shots. Next stop - Staples Center. My prediction - 4-2 in favor of the Spurs.

A friend of mine, who is a big fan of Chris Paul, sent me a link. It was an excerpt from an interview of Allen Iverson. It may seem like AI is all praises about Chris Paul, but if you read between the lines, it's like he's saying Chris Paul is a ball-hog and that he can only be MVP if Iverson lets him. I am an AI fan, and I am also a New Orleans fan, not because of Chris Paul but because of their underdog status. Yep! I said underdog. Even though they lead the West in wins, coming into the Playoffs they're one of the most, if not the most, inexperienced team. And if they pull it off, I'd say Chris Paul will be worthy to be named MVP maybe next year, or the year after that. Not this year. This year is Kobe's year. Kansas beat Memphis

Kansas wins over Memphis with a score of 75-68 in OT. Darrell Arthur was the man of the hour for the Jayhawks. The Tigers did good in containing Brandon Rush, but Arthur proved to be too much to handle. The offense of Chalmers was also laudable. He hit a couple of threes when it was needed the most, including the game-tying three pointer in the last 10 seconds of regulation. The Tigers had a chance to blow the game wide open in the last 7 minutes of play, but because of the tenacity of the Kansas offense, they weren't able to do so. Plus, Derrick Rose's poor performance in the first half is partly to blame for Memphis' inability to take the lead before the last minutes of play. But Kansas deserves the title. They beat number 1 seed, University of North Carolina, and they withstood the onslaught of the Tiger's offense. By now, Oklahoma State may be very eager to get Bill Self. Kansas should start paying him some serious cash, or they'll again find themselves in a similar situation as what happened with former KU coach, Roy Williams.

CWC Trip '08

One of my friends, Olops, planned a trip to CWC (Camsure Watersports Complex), and most of us weren't sure if we're gonna go, mainly because we had no money (it's Magayon Festival in Bicol. Go Figure!) That was about a week before the scheduled trip. Come Sunday, the only person who was sure that he'd go was Olops. We were playing basketball then. After playin', we went to Charlie's house to have some iced tea. That's when our supervisor sent us a message tellin' us to go to Albay Park because 'twas her hubby's birthday. So, off we went to Peñaranda Park.

The place was jam-packed with people, and we had a bit of a hard time navigating our way through all those people in search of Hawak Kamay, which is where our friends were at. We found them after a couple of minutes and proceeded to drink the free booze and eat the hearty pulutan. We were planning to stay only 'til about 11 pm because we were very tired from the game. But because we were having a lot of fun, we ended up drinkin' 'til almost 5 am. That's when Olops persuaded me, Leonel and Peachy to go with him to Cam Sur.

By 8 am I was already wide awake and preparing for the 2-hour trip. Olops brought his van and by 9 we were off to Pili. We had to listen to Westlife just so we wouldn't fall asleep. We got there before 11 am, and we immediately took pictures. There was already a line at the wake-boarding/knee-boarding gate. We signed up and were told that they'll just page us when it was our time to try wake-boarding/knee-boarding. What we did during the day was gawk at the women, exchange jokes and funny stories, talk about people behind their backs, eat, take advantage of the free Wi-Fi setup, get mesmerized by the routine of the wake-boarders and play some pool. All in all, we were just being silly the whole day.

By 4 0'clock it was our time to give knee-boarding a shot. After a brief tutorial, we were all raring to go. I slid to the gate and held tightly on to the handle bars. Then I was off. I was surprised by how easy it was, albeit it was very tiring. After about two rounds, I let go of the handle. I swam to the side and rested for a bit. Then I lined up again. No use wasting any more time resting. After another round of knee-boarding, we decided it was time to give wake-boarding a try. The people there were reluctant to teach us how, but we did it anyway. I spent about three seconds on the water, after which I found myself under it. It's not as easy as it looks. Sadly my time was up so I transferred to the pool. We took a lot of pictures, after which we decided it was time to retire.

The Sony PSP is a versatile gaming console. It can play games, audio and video files. You can also store images and other supported files. Homebrew apps are also available if you'd like to take your PSP to the next level. Me, on the other hand, like the PSP because I can store scanned copies of books and magazines. EBooks usually come in .txt format, but those that are in .pdf are also available. However, sometimes the .pdf version is full of images and .pdf viewers like BookR can't load 'em. If you've downloaded lots of magazines and comics, then the best thing to do is convert your .pdf file to .jpg files. It's very easy. All you need is a PDF to JPG converter. You can find one online. Even the trial version works fine. You'll get good quality and the size is almost the same.

Pregnant Man? Pfft!

Trans-gender male (that's still a woman to me!) got pregnant. No surprises there! Thomas Beatie still has a uterus doesn't she? It's all over the news. I don't know what the fuss is all about. It's not as if she was the first trans-gender man to ever get pregnant. And there hasn't even been proof that she really is. Witnesses said that a month ago they saw her and she wasn't that "big". In her defense she said she stopped taking male hormones and that accounts for the big belly. But, then again, I would still like to see a sonogram, please. Who knows, it might just be a severe case of hernia or what-not.

p.s. I feel too uncomfortable using the male pronoun, even for a trans-gender man, so pardon me. I'm not sexist, or anything. It's just weird for me.

Paguriran Trip '08

The Marketing Department has this annual thing every Holy Week that they go out to the beach. Actually, this year only marks the 2nd time, but who's counting, right? Anyway, the plan was set for Maundy Thursday. Most of those who want to come are like, "What?! We have plans for Good Friday!" Well, too bad for them. We still went anyway.

We departed at around 8 am for Bacon, Sorsogon. We were hoping that we'll reach the city before noon, which we did after about a pack of cigarettes. And there were a few incidents along the way that were very memorable including the incident with "The Lost Boys". When we reached Fisherman's Lodge, which looked hell of a lot better than it sounds, we were told that the cabanas were all booked. So off we went in search of another resort which had vacant rooms. A few hundred meters from the Lodge, we found New Sea Breeze (or was it Sea Breeze II?). We settled in, had lunch and left everything in our room afterwards. Before 1 pm we were off to Paguriran Island, which was really what we were there for.

It took about 45 minutes to reach Paguriran, although the people we asked told us that it would take at most 1 and a half hours. But that is just because they haven't seen Mike drive. We were already parked and resting at the resort when the others finally caught up to us. As soon as they arrived we immediately took pictures with the island in the background. The view was simply breathtaking.

We went to the island, which was about a 5 minute walk from the shore, assuming of course that you don't break your ankle maneuvering through all those sharp rocks. There was a lagoon-like pool in the middle of the island, which was clean and a bit deep. We swam for about an hour, took pictures, climbed the rocks at the back and took a dip in the 10-foot water. We then decided to head back to Sea Breeze so we can rest; that's partly because we knew we were gonna spend the whole evening and part of the morning partying.

When we got back to the resort, we decided to play football. Not touch-football, mind you. There were take-downs and tackling and all those stuff. One of us even had to quit, and we were told later that he was seen vomiting at the side. When we were all bruised and beaten, we decided to stop the game. We had dinner and then the drinking session began. All we did was drink, sing and talk all night. And when we thought enough was enough, some of the guys bought some more beer and we ended up drinking 'til about 4 am. We all slept, and after what seemed like a few minutes, we woke up and prepared to leave. It was Good Friday so we passed a number of prayer processions along the road. By noon, we were all home.

It was a memorable experience because we rarely do it. Yes! We go out every now and then, and if an occasion calls for it, we go out to the beach as well. But 'twas the beginning of the exploration of everything that Bicol has to offer. Next stop: CamSur Watersports Complex, Swimming with Whale Sharks, Mayon hike/trek and, hopefully, Cave Spelunking near Misibis Resort.

I looked for this picture the first time I heard about it, and it was only today that I was able to find one. I knew 'twas gonna be something like this because I've read a description, but now that I've seen it, it's far from what I expected. I didn't think it'd be THAT worse! LeBron James is so unfit to be in Vogue that he makes Gisele Bundchen look bad. It brings to mind images of King Kong clutching his prized catch. Bad move for Vogue. But, I think it won't be that bad for the magazine. The April issue will still generate sales, although it'd be because people will add this to their collection of ridiculous magazine covers.

Pacquiao Wins Controversial Bout

I was hammered the night before the Pacquiao-Marquez bout, so I had a terrible hangover during the morning of the fight. I was planning on staying in bed, but the shouting downstairs kept me from nodding off to la-la land. It's a good thing I watched 'coz I would've missed one of the most exciting fights ever. It was neck in neck until the end of the match. Personally, I thought twas gonna be dead-even. But, surprisingly, Manny Pacquiao came out as the winner due to a controversial split-decision.

LeBron James: Vogue Magazine's April Cover Boy

LeBron James is gonna be on the front cover of the April issue of Vogue magazine, and he won't be alone. Alpha female, Gisele Bundchen will be on the cover as well. Now, Gisele I understand, but Lebron James? I mean, Lebron is one heck of a player...but a fashion model? No way. He can be on as many Sports Illustrated magazine covers that he likes, but I think he's just not the right guy. He dresses up nice alright, but every time I see him in clothes other than his Cavs uniform all I can think about was how he was voted as the worst-dressed guy during the 2003 NBA Draft. And just because he's able to buy thousands of dollars worth of clothes he'll be on the front cover. That's just plain wrong.

Do you know who my bets are? Miami Heat's Dwyane Wade, New Orleans Saints' Reggie Bush or Gisele's very own boyfriend, New England Patriot's Tom Brady. Now, if you place LeBron in the middle of those three he'd look like a Vogue magazine should be used to cover his face instead. But, hell, what can I do? It's Vogue's funeral, not mine.

Move Over Playstation 2. Hello PSP!

I got bored of my old PS2 so I decided to buy a Sony PSP, and at the price I got it it's a steal. It was pre-installed with two (boring) games, Call of Duty and Dead to Rights. Both games had sucky graphics, so I went to my cousin's house and borrowed his memory card. After 30 mintues of tinkering with my PSP, I was able to replace the two with Dragonball Z Budokai and Burn-Out, plus I installed a lot of themes and mp3s. Recently, I've been downloading DVDRips of movies and tv series from the Net. I'm gonna upload 'em all to my PSP so I can watch 'em. I've downloaded National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Rambo (2008), 10,000 B.C., Seinfeld and Monk episodes and funny videos. And I also have an e-book reader.

If you are looking to download PSP stuff from the Net, here are a few tips:

Your PSP should be modified so it can play homebrew games, apps, etc. As for movies, music and images, there's no problem.
Look for free stuff. There are a lot of 'em, although it'll take a bit of time and effort on your part.
Prepare yourself for a long download time. Most DVDRips and games come to about 300 MB, and it could take about an hour or so to download one.
Take time to register. Some forums and PSP websites require you to register before you get to the good stuff.
Always check the format of the file you're about to download. To be safe, it should be in .mp4 format (for videos), .png .jpg .gif .bmp format (for images), .mp3 format (for audio), .txt .html format (for e-book), and .iso .cso format (for homebrew games). I may have missed some. Just consult your manual.
Update your anti-virus before you download stuff!
Download stuff hosted in rapidshare, sendspace, gigasize, uploadfactory and megaupload.
It pays to have a PayPal account.
Keying in specific keywords in search engines works. For example, try putting ".mp4 videos" psp in the search field if you're lookin' for movies and tv show rips.
Make sure you have the correct firmware.
Don't over-load your memory card.
Put files in their respective folders.

Sports: Not For Softies

Guys like sports. There's just no other way to say it. Women like to shop, guys like to run around catching a ball. Women like jewelry, guys dig shiny race cars. Women like to powder their nose and curl their eyelashes, men can be comfortable even if they're sweating out of all their nature-intended sweat spots. That's just it. That's why I'm quite confused why there are a number of guys that don't like to play sports at all. They're labeled as geeks or nerds, or just plain soft because they're not good at a real man's game.

Did you know that during the Mesoamerican period, Aztecs would cut off the heads of the losers at a tlachti game, which is similar to the game of basketball? Now that's a man's game. I'm not saying you should get yourself killed so you can be called a real man. I'm just saying you shouldn't be afraid to get hurt, because based on my own personal opinion, most men who don't play any kind of sport is just scared of gettin' hurt. They have this complex that they're just not good enough to play the sport. That's like saying you're not good enough to be a man. I may not be entirely correct. There may be a couple of exceptions here and there. I'm just saying that sports is interesting to guys. If it doesn't interest you, then you'd better take a good look at yourself in the mirror.

Live, er, Heal, to Fight Another Day

Dwayne Wade is out for the rest of the season. His team is no longer in the running for a playoff spot. And he needs to fully recuperate from his knee injury. The decision was just made a couple of hours ago and I can't say I'm surprised. The Miami Heat is in a slump. They've had the worst regular season ever. Even the Toronto Raptors and the Memphis Grizzlies didn't have that kind of record during their first season in the NBA. What a poor performance from the team. It's disappointing, especially considering the fact that they've just won a championship a couple of years back.

They say they're losing because their stars are not healthy. Well, that's only because Pat Riley has been ridin' them ever since the start of the season. His style of coaching is already obsolete. Not a very good strategist and play-maker. He's just gettin' his boys all banged up. I bet Shawn Marion is regretting ever accepting the trade. He could have made more money if he held out. I don't believe the team is the one performing badly. I think it's the management and the coaching staff that's not doing their job well. The team no longer has a legit center. Haslem is not given enough credit for his shooting ability and defense. Dwayne Wade isn't given good plays. Their benchplayers are not as good as the other teams'. All in all, everything's not working for them. I won't be surprised if they don't make the playoffs come spring next year.

I like Dwayne Wade. The whole "fall down seven times, get up eight" thing is admirable. And I admire him for playing hurt. That's the stuff that makes a winner. Take a look at the Rockets. They have one heck of a winning streak in the West because T-Mac is playin' well even when he's hurt. I just hope the USA basketball squad wins at the Olympics so Dwayne Wade can at least have a taste of success this year. Maybe next year, he could demand for a trade. To the Spurs maybe? Well, I'd very much like that.

Brett Favre Retires

I haven’t watched ESPN since the Super Bowl, so I missed Brett Favre’s retirement announcement. It was only yesterday that I found out (although I did know that he had plans of retiring back in January '06), and I didn’t quite find the time to write about it till now. Besides, the NBA regular season is coming to a close so I’m glued to NBA TV and FSN all the time.

Anyway, I would have to agree with the Packer’s management that Brett Favre still has one more season in him. But then again, seeing that Favre is such a perfectionist, I doubt he’d be willing to stay if he won’t be able to lead the Green Bay Packers again to the Super Bowl. He wants to make a graceful exit, and as an avid fan and athlete I can relate with him. If I were in his shoes I’d do the same. Michael Jordan did it. Wayne Gretzky did it. Oscar de la Hoya did it. And besides, he has already played his share of games. He has already won his share of victories. And he has broken countless records, even Dan Marino’s touchdown pass record, which we thought was an impossible feat.

#1 Free Agent? Seriously?!

Randy Moss is the number 1 free agent?! No way! He may have had a stellar regular season during the Patriot’s 16-0 run, but when he was needed the most he failed to deliver. The Pats got away with two more wins in the playoffs, and Moss was completely shut down in those two games. He was a non-factor. Why? Because the Jaguars and Chargers knew how to defend him. Wes Welker plays better than Randy Moss. There are people who comment that Welker is nothing without Tom Brady. Well, as far as I know it’s still a team game.

Personally speaking, I think the biggest name on the market is Asante Samuel. He’s one hell of a good defender. And the Philadelphia Eagles did well by signing him. As for Randy Moss, I think the Patriots will still sign him. They’re just waiting to see what the best offer is and try to top it so they wouldn’t be offering that much for Moss, who is one of the most overrated players I know. Lastly, without Asante Samuel, I bet the Patriots won’t even make it to Super Bowl XLIII.

Coming This March at a Theater Near You

With so much happening, I have not been able to watch my share of movies this month. Since March is already around the corner, I decided to check what movies are set to be released so I can make plans. I’ve also posted a list of movies that I believe you shouldn’t miss (because I, myself, am gonna watch ‘em).

1. 10,000 B.C.
Girl gets abducted by an evil warlord. Guy, who’s crazy about her, attempts a rescue. He gathers an army and fights off men and beasts. This movie is set to be released on March 7. I’ve seen the trailer, and the CGI sequences are great. That’s reason enough to watch the movie. Also, you can watch this with your friends, or with your girlfriend (so you can cuddle if she becomes too afraid of the mastodons and the saber-toothed tigers.)

2. CJ7
Poor father + Young son + Alien + Stephen Chow = that adds up to one potentially very funny movie. This one’s set to be released on the 7th as well. It’s starred in, produced and directed by Stephen Chow. He is well known for blockbuster hits Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. I bet it’s gonna be funny as hell.

3. THE BANK JOB
It seems there are lots of great movies that are gonna be released on the 7th. This one stars Jason Statham. He plays a retired crook who is offered a job of a lifetime, that of recovering sexy photos of a royal family member. Hmmm. I wonder who the royal family member is. And people who’ve watched Statham in the Transporter, Transporter 2 and Crank already know that this movie is guaranteed to be action-packed.

4. DOOMSDAY
The movie stars Rhona Mitra. Need I say more? This will open at movie theaters on the 14th.

5. DR. SEUSS' HORTON HEARS A WHO!
Horton, an elephant, hears voices coming from a speck of dust. Weird? It’s actually believable once you’ve seen the movie. Everyone is familiar with Dr. Seuss. Plus Jim Carrey provides the voice for Horton. This is a great movie for the whole family, and even for the man who is in reality still a little child inside. After watching Doomsday, you should watch this one too because it opens on the same day.

6. DRILLBIT TAYLOR
Funny guy Owen Wilson stars in this movie which will be released on the 21st. He plays a bodyguard who’s hired by nerdy teenagers who are always getting beaten up. This one is a must-see because it stars Owen Wilson. I am not aware of any movie of his that flopped in the box office.

7. NEVER BACK DOWN
Lame-ass kid gets beaten up by a bully. He finds a way to get back by learning mixed-martial arts. UFC and IFC fans will surely enjoy this one. Set a date for the 14th for this one.

8. 21
A professor hires a group of nerds and together they take on Las Vegas. It’s loosely based on a bestseller, Bringing Down the House. It’ll be on the silver screen on the 28th.

9. RUN, FATBOY, RUN
The title got me. I know this is gonna be a good one. This is set to be released by the end of March. The storyline revolves around Dennis. He’s the fat boy. He walks out of his wedding, and several years later he decides to win her ex-fiance’s heart back. The problem – he has to run a marathon, which he is in no condition to do. This too will open on the 28th.

10. SHUTTER
This is a remake of the 2004 Thai film of the same title, which personally speaking is one of the most frightening movies of all time. Set to be released on the 28th.

That’s all of it. Better clear your calendar on those dates.

I Bet You Didn't Know That...

A friend posted an article entitled "28 Things That Girls Don't Know About Guys" at the bulletin board in friendster.com. I read it, and based on my point of view, while some of them are indeed true, most are not. And 'twas ironic 'cause it was a girl who posted the bulletin. So I made a couple of changes (by changes, I mean I mostly qualified the facts and placed comments) and reposted it here. I hope you learn something.

28 Things That Girls Don't Know About Guys

(that I bet some girls already know but are too sly to admit)

1. Guys may be flirting around all day but before they go to sleep, they always think about the girl they truly care about.
- This one's very tricky. First, it depends on how hot the girl the guy is flirting with is. But it’s an entirely different situation if the guy is “satisfactorily” in love. He’ll surely think about the girl who he truly cares about.

2. Guys go crazy over a girl's smile.

- Well, that's true if, and only if, the girl has a nice smile. Plus, she has to be someone the guy really likes, otherwise just imagine what would happen if guys go nuts every time a girl he encounters smiles at him. Get my drift?

3. Guys will do anything just to get you to notice him.

- This one is true, and that includes making a fool of one’s self.

4. Guys hate it when you talk about your ex-boyfriend or ex love-interest.

- No! We don’t. Unless you talk about him excessively (or obsessively), or in a way that makes us want to kill the guy. If that is the case, then Yes! We’ll strap him to the front end of an ambulance and have it driven around by an ex-con. If you talk about him and you have a dreamy look on your face, that’ll surely piss us off.

5. Boyfriends need to be reassured often that they're still loved.

- Guys aren’t that insecure. Maybe we need to be reassured every now and then, but definitely not that often.

6. Don't talk about your guy friends to your boyfriend.

- You should. Not that much, though, otherwise your boyfriend will feel threatened. This is one situation when you should reassure the guy that you love him. It should preferably be done before and after the talk.

7. Guys get jealous easily.

- Insecure guys do. Flirting. Lunch dates with male officemates. Meeting up with an ex. All of these should be avoided.

8. Guys are more emotional than they'd like people to think.

- Sadly, that’s true. Do you know the I-got-dust-in-my-eye-that’s-why-I’m-welling-up move? Guys invented that!

9. Giving a guy a hanging message like, "You know what?!..uh...nevermind.." would make him jump to a conclusion that is far from what you are thinking. And he'll assume he did something wrong and he'll obsess about it trying to figure it out.

- If a guy really cares about you, he’ll obsess about it; if he doesn’t, he won’t give a dime’s worth what you’re thinking about and just let it go.

10. Guys are good flatterers when courting but they usually stammer when they talk to a girl they really like.

- It’s just now that I begin to think that this post may be originally written by a high school student. Well, anyway, if the guy’s confident enough he won’t stammer. But if he’s trying too hard to impress someone, then it’s likely that he’ll make a fool of himself. Now that I think about it, it seems we do that too often.

11. A usual act that proves that the guy likes you is when he teases you.

- Among the 28, this one is the nearest to the truth. Pulling pigtails. Throwing snowballs. Hiding your bag. Calling you names. Flattering you to the point of embarrassing you. All a ploy to get near you.

12. Guys love you more than you love them if they are serious in your relationships.

- This one is a thinker. It’s hard to prove/disprove this, but maybe it is the other way around because women are more prone to being emotionally attached than men.

13. Guys think WAY too much. One small thing a girl does, even if she doesn't notice it can make the guy think about it for hours, trying to figure out what it meant.

- Yes! When it comes to relationships, men don’t wear their hearts on their sleeves. We think. We obsess about something that we don’t know, especially if it has something to do with someone/something that we care about.

14. Guys seek for advice from girls not other guys. Because most guys think alike, so if one guy's confused, then we're all confused.

- Far from being true. We seek advice from men and women alike, and since men oftentimes share the same fate as us, we tend to ask a guy friend for advice first. But, ultimately, we still follow our own instincts. The guy talk is just for kicks, so we can share our misery with someone.

15. When a guy asks you to leave him alone, he's just actually saying, "Please come and listen to me."

- Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. When a guy wants to be alone, leave him be.

16. If a guy starts to talk seriously, listen to him. It doesn't happen that often, so when it does, you know something's up.

- That’s a big 10-4.

17. If your best guy friend seems to avoid you or is never around when you're with your boyfriend, he's probably jealous and likes you.

- Spot on!

18. When a guy tells you that you are beautiful, don't say you aren't. It makes them want to stop telling you because they don't want you to disagree with them.

- This is true, but not so much for the reason given. It’s not so much that we don’t want girls to disagree with what we’re saying. It’s just that we go out of our way to give a flattering comment, and it’s just not nice if you don’t acknowledge it.

19. When a guy looks at you for longer than a second, he's definitely thinking something.

- Another thing the writer got correctly. Although the implications can be positive or negative. It may mean he’s thinking about how sexy you are in that plunging dress you’re wearing, or it’s just because there’s some leftover of the mac and cheese that you ate the morning before stuck in between your teeth.

20. Guys don't like girls who punch harder than they do.

- Who can? Enough said.

21. A guy has more problems than you can see with your naked eyes.

22. Don't be a snob. Guys can be intimidated and give up easily.

- A big mistake most girls make. If you like a guy, don’t be a snob. If he asks you out, or asks for your own number, don’t say “No!”

23. Guys talk about girls more than girls talk about guys.

- I don’t know about this one. But I’ve heard from a friend that girls talk about boys in the bathroom all the time. Guys, on the other hand don’t. So that’s one place where girls talk more about guys, while we keep to ourselves. It's not polite to talk in the men's bathroom.

24. Guys hate rejection, but they hate being led on even more.

- This is so true. In the former, you’re just being honest, while in the latter you’re just being mean.

25. If you are going to reject a guy, just do it. Don't say they are like a brother or just good friends, it just hurts even more. Tell them that you aren't interested in a relationship and they will respect you.

- That is just good manners. As a matter of fact, guys handle rejection well. We handle it better than women, that is.

26. Guys really think that girls are strange and confusing but somehow are drawn even more to them.

- You can never really tell what’s going on inside a man’s mind. It’s the same with women. A little mystery doesn’t hurt.

27. When a guy sacrifices his sleep and health just to be with you, he really likes you and wants to be with you as much as possible.

- Why else would we be losing that much sleep, if not to spend a couple more hours with the one we like.

28. I counted and recounted and there really is only 27 of them. Sheesh! This guy is not that bright.

Yao Ming Sidelined by Injury

Yao Ming is out for the remainder of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot. I’m a basketball enthusiast, and I know that of all the places where you’re likely to get injured, that’s one of the worst parts. More so if you are right-handed. Whenever you go up for a right lay-up, a hook or whatever kind of right-handed shot you can muster, you always jump with the left foot. Chinese basketball players are sometimes trained to use both feet when making any kind of shot, but i guess this wouldn't help the Chinese superstar. If Yao Ming does not fully recover from this injury, he’ll end up being washed up. Or worst, he’ll slip into mediocrity like Chris Webber or Penny Hardaway. Looks like he’s gonna miss the Beijing Olympics too, considering that this is his fourth serious injury in just two years.

This is a stunning blow to the Rockets who are also missing Tracy McGrady due to back spasms. For a relatively young team, they sure suffer a lot of injuries. Well, there’s nothing else that can be done but pray for Yao Ming to get back on his feet again. On the other hand, T-Mac should suck it up and play hurt if they want to make the playoffs. If you ask me, get a new trainer or do what most of the teams are doing now and acquire free agents or negotiate a trade.

No Country for Old Men (like Tommy Lee Jones?!)

The film No Country for Old Men is severely overrated. The score was not what you would expect from a modern western (it’s no wonder the movie didn’t win Best Sound Mixing and Editing). Also, the movie’s focus on how chance shapes things around every major character in the movie is just too much. Yes! It may be dubbed as one of the best modern western films, but it definitely is not a High Noon or The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Take my word for it, in a month’s time all talk of No Country for Old Men will have died down.

The performance of all the actors is good. Not exceptional, but good. Save of course for Javier Bardem’s portrayal of the main antagonist. He sure is menacing. There was talk that his character, Anton Chigurh, is reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter, only that he was unfortunate enough to have that weird moptop, which by the way is very distracting to say the least. In an interview, Bardem said, “You don't have to act the haircut. The haircut acts by itself.” Still, I think it would have been equally effective even if Bardem had brushed-up hair in the film. Here is a look-see of Bardem's controversial haircut...not good, eh?! A very methodical and smart killer, and he isn't even aware how unsightly his haircut is.

I may not be a full-time movie critic, but I know a great movie when I see one. No Country for Old Men is just okay. Just like Cloverfield or I Am Legend, the movie is all hype. It does not deliver. The plot was predictable. It was too negative. The score didn’t do much to complement the scenes. Some of the actors were not right for the part. The action was too slow-paced at times. And don’t get me started on the title. Is it titled No Country for Old Men because Tommy Lee Jones is too old to keep up with Bardem and Brolin in the movie? Mediocrity is fast becoming a trend in Hollywood. Good thing for No Country for Old Men that it had no serious competition this year.

And Who Said Men Weren't Interested in Politics?!

Texas & Ohio - Here Come the Democrats. The mega-state polls are just a few days away, and Democrat presidential candidate- hopeful Hillary Clinton has her eyes set on winning the Texas and Ohio mega-state polls. In fact, reports of her paying no heed to the Hawaii and Wisconsin primaries have surfaced. She may already be getting desperate, but if she manages to add the mega-states to her belt, then she may end up winning the primary contest.

Barack Obama, on the other hand, is projected to win over at least 23 states before the Texas and Ohio primaries. He is well on his way to achieving that, having won the Washington D. C., Maryland and Virginia primaries recently. It comes as no surprise because Obama has been able to split the vote of women with Clinton so far, while racking up more votes from men and younger voters. However, Clinton still is the choice of less-educated voters as well as senior citizens. Come March, Obama can break away with a comfortable lead, or Clinton will catch up to him and take the lead for herself. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Wladimir Klitschko - Sultan Ibragimov Bout

I have just finished watching the live feed of the Wladimir Klitschko – Sultan Ibragimov heavyweight unification bout and I would have to say that I am a bit disappointed by the lackluster performance of Klitschko, who won by the way via unanimous decision (118-110, 117-111, 118-110). All night long the fans waited for him to unleash his dreaded right uppercut, and he only did so in the final rounds of the match. He wasn’t able to connect on any of his tries, except for a few right straights and hooks. On the other hand, his left jab was a thing of beauty, but that comes as no surprise considering the fact that he was a couple of inches taller than Ibragimov.

If it were up to me, the match would have ended in a draw, and a rematch scheduled later this year. Dr. Steelhammer may have gained control over the fight because of his jabs, but Ibragimov was far from being outclassed. He was shorter and stockier yet he was able to keep up with Klitschko until the final round. Sadly though, he wasn’t able to connect solidly on any of his punches. But he did make me laugh when he body-slammed Klitschko to the canvass in the 10^th round. Now, that’s something for the books. First ever body-slam in a boxing match, and I witnessed it.

Wladimir Klitschko improved to 50 wins and 3 losses, while Sultan Ibragimov suffered his first loss in 22 fights. The former now holds the WBO, IBF and IBO world heavyweight titles. There are rumors that a fight against Russian boxer, Aleksander Povetkin, is in the making. But there are talks that no one can measure up to the champion other than his older brother, former WBC Heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko. Well, I’d very much like to see that fight someday, and I bet pay-per-view sales will skyrocket.

I admire Klitschko’s gesture of donating a part of his winnings to charity. But it was hard to get fixated on that what with all the booing and the noise of people rushing out of Madison Square Garden. Seconds after the fight ended, there was no loud applause, no cheering and hooting. People emptied out of the arena as if it was on fire. I can’t blame them. Klitschko’s fighting strategy was too one-dimensional, and Ibragimov just ran out of ideas on how to connect to the Ukrainian champion. All in all, it was a so-so fight. I wish I had just watched a UFC or IFC program instead.

NBA Update

The 2007-08 NFL Season is over, and I have to admit it’s one of the most entertaining seasons ever. And don’t get me started on the season the Pats had. I was rooting on them to win the Lombardi trophy, but after seeing the Giant’s defense in the first half of play, I was won over. And they went on to win Super Bowl XLII. Talk about an upset. And Tyree’s catch in the closing minutes of the fourth should be made Play of the Century. Moving on to other stuff, it’s NCAA March Madness time and also NBA teams are working their way through the remainder of the regular season. For basketball lovers, well, it’s already crunch time.

There is just too much happening in the NBA scene. The Warriors beat the Celtics, giving the latter its 11th loss. I had thought that the star-studded Celtics team was capable of beating Michael Jordan and the Bulls’ 72-10 record what with the way they started the season, but all hopes of that were ended by Baron’s winning shot. Then the Suns beat them on the road yesterday. The Celtic dream is slowly starting to slip away again, and fans may witness a couple more losses, even at home. Phoenix already has the Diesel. Lakers have outstanding forward Gasol in their lineup. Dallas acquired Kidd. Big Ben went to the Cavs in an 11-player trade involving 3 teams. And there are still powerhouses like Detroit, San Antonio and the up and coming Hornets to contend with. Celtic fans should not get their hopes up too much.

The Monster Truck Hype

Men feel comfortable even when they are surrounded by thousands of crazed people who are shouting at the top of their lungs. In fact, if you want to get to know someone better, take him to a demolition derby, or better yet to a monster truck competition. There is nothing as relaxing as the experience of watching trucks with 10-foot tall wheels running amok. Some men may enjoy bubble baths and long walks on the beach, but real men enjoy destruction. A guy can even go to an event alone, and then leave with a truckload of new friends and head off to a nearby bar where they can recount the glorious events of the day.

Real men may be destroyers, but they also are builders. Who do you think built Madison Square Garden, Fenway Park, Gillette Stadium or demolition derby arenas in the first place? Men defy the law of polarity. They can be a builder and a destroyer all at the same time. The genius of it all is, they usually put effort into building something that they can later destroy. Enter my hero, Robosaurus. No one ever thought they’d live to see the day that a robotic dinosaur will walk the streets. And the main dinner course – monster trucks and puny cars which take other men hours and hours on end to build.

What is with monster trucks that attract the attention of the male crowd? Just think about it, monster trucks represent us. They are big, flashy and imposing, and I bet no man has ever dreamt of being the exact opposite of these. Also, no one would admit to this, but people would trample other people in order to get ahead, and that is just what monster trucks do. Those things may be the cause of the monster truck hype, but all I know is, the shows are just darn entertaining.

And this is not your run-off-the-mill, high school, girlish journal. If you think about it, this is actually a public service. Most people believe that women are harder to understand than men. Yes! This notion may be correct at times, but that does not make it altogether true. What you see of men is just the tip of the iceberg. If you dig a little deeper you may find answers to several of your questions. And, the icing on the cake is, I'm gonna do the digging for you. I'll spoonfeed you the facts, and it's up to you to believe them or not. All of the stuff that will be posted here are strictly from a guy's point of view, no more and no less. Criticism is welcome, although i'll just blow pass it without you knowing. And that is your first lesson - Guys don't take criticism well. Keep an open mind, just shut your trap and you will learn something. Sexism is taboo in this blog.
